Many people (especially politicians during election years) have stated, almost as gospel, that “small businesses are the backbone of America.” While it may seem to be just boilerplate, it turns to be one of those platitudes that’s a fact. More than 75 percent of the nation’s new jobs are created by small businesses, and they pay out more than 44 percent of the country’s private payroll. Stats like that add up to one undeniable fact: small businesses are an indispensable, irreplaceable part of America. Here in Arizona, small businesses make up more than one-third of our workforce, more than 97 percent of all the state’s employers.
Timeless Wood Furniture is a genuine Arizona small business success story. We founded our family-owned company with a different approach than the majority of other furniture firms out there. Using traditional building techniques, we handcraft each piece of furniture we sell, to order. This ensures our customers receive a truly one-of-a-kind bed, nightstand or dresser that will be treasured for generations. By focusing on our craft, rather than only the bottom line, we are able to deliver high-quality, handmade products at a competitive price.
Last month, we were honored when Amazon (one of America’s true small business success stories: started in 1994 as an online bookstore by Jeff Bezos in Seattle, WA, earlier this year it became the second publicly-traded company valued at $1 trillion) invited us to attend an event held in Scottsdale, organized by the Republican Governors Association. While Timeless Wood Furniture takes a neutral stance on political matters, we couldn’t pass up the chance to rub shoulders with several politicians including ten governors (such as Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey) to share their thoughts on small businesses in our state. In the past, he has said, “Small businesses are the backbone of Arizona’s manufacturing industry and their outputs are making an impact around the world.”For 55 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and our nation’s economy. It’s not too soon to think about National Small Business Week 2019, which is slated to be held May 5 -11. That gives you plenty of time to contemplate everything small businesses do for our state, from providing essential goods and services and supplying jobs for Arizonans to contributing much-needed cash to our state’s thriving economy. If you’d like to recognize a company that exemplifies what it means to be a small business here in Arizona, Timeless Wood Furniture would be honored if you’d consider nominating us for this prestigious award.
